400m and 800m indoor Open water-style swim races for masters swimmers, triathletes, lifeguards, waterpolo players, and marathon swimmers.
When: Nov 21st, 2009 @ 8-10pm
Where: uOttawa Pool
How Much: $20 per person
Course:
•100m rectangular course laid out with buoys in the 50m pool
•Dive or in-water starts off the blocks along the deep wall
•Race starts with a mad dash through the middle gate (on diagram below) then a hard turn swimmer’s right
•Swimmers then do laps of the corner buoys
•Finish line is the wall of the two left-most lanes

Format:
•400m Sprint Race (3.5 times around a buoy course) with a dive or in-water start. Up to 8 people per heat, circle-seeded heats assigned by seed time.
•800m Pursuit Race (7.5 times around a buoy course) with a dive or in-water start. Up to 16 people per heat, where the fastest swimmer from the Sprint race goes first, followed 3 seconds later by the second fastest from the Sprint race, followed 3 seconds later by the third fastest, etc. (The expectation would be that the first place swimmer should still win... but 800m is twice as far as 400m...)
Goal:
•Provide a unique racing and training opportunity that focuses on open water swimming skills.
Awards:
•Fun prizes to age group winners in the Sprint Race (U20, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+)
•Trophies to fastest male and female of the each Pursuit Race
